Fragrance Notes

Fragrance is often treated as a single decision — a spray before leaving the house. In reality, scent behaves more like architecture. It has layers, foundations, and a lifespan.

Scent layering allows fragrance to feel intentional rather than aggressive. When done correctly, it creates presence — not projection.

Understanding Scent Layers

Most fragrances are built in three stages: top notes, heart notes, and base notes. Layering works by supporting these stages rather than competing with them.

  • Cleansers and soaps form the base
  • Balms and oils add subtle continuity
  • Fragrance should be applied last — and lightly

Common Mistakes

The most common mistake is mixing competing profiles — heavy woods with sharp citrus, or sweet notes layered over spice. This creates confusion rather than depth.

Good scent layering is rarely noticed consciously. It simply feels complete.
